What's needed for installing
- If purchasing this kit unassembled without new hubs, we highly recommend adding our install kit to your order. Install kit includes locating pins, a press sleeve, and a stepped reamer for your brake rotor to accept larger 1/2" wheel studs. (See pictures) Part number TPR026
- If purchasing new hubs with double shear kit fully assembled, all you'll need for installing on your car is our stepped reamer for the brake rotor wheel stud holes as our kit uses larger wheel studs. Reamer can be purchased by itself under part number TPR026
TPR Patented Design & Stock Hub Issues
Polaris 5 lug unitized hubs can have an issue with lug nuts coming loose and wheel studs breaking off. The main cause of this is from shallow stud engagement in hub. UTVs don’t use a hub-centric wheel design from the factory. This means all of the vehicles weight is being supported on the wheel studs. The Pro R platform is much heavier, more powerful, and can use much larger tires than its predecessor pushing the capability to hold the wheel on.
The factory hub uses .350” of stud engagement, our kit doubles that to .700” increasing the ability to support the load with less dependency on the wheel stud torque.
TPR's patented double shear ring is a 2 piece design that slides behind the hub flange and locates on the outer machined area of hub locking it in place. Shallow stud engagement typically needs a higher wheel stud torque to keep studs from moving in hub and lugs from loosing up. Pro R factory wheel torque is 148 ft lbs, that’s 28 lbs more than previous models with the same 12mm stud size. Factory lug nuts are tapered to mesh and center the wheel. Higher torque values are extremely hard on the taper and will start to destroy the machined area in wheel much faster.
TPR's hub upgrade will convert to a larger ARP 1/2” stud. The only modification necessary is to ream out the bolt holes in brake rotors. We offer a stepped reamer that can be used in a hand drill and from our experience, most wheels will have a much larger hole and no modifications are necessary.
No modifications are needed on hub. Just press out stock studs, install rings and press in new studs. Our install kit (TPR026) makes this process very easy with locating pins and a press sleeve. Recommend wheel torque is 120 ft lbs.
Our double shear rings are manufactured completely in house.
